Our Story
We began life 27 years ago in the kitchen of Diana Maher. She was the really good cook who Anne and Andrew Perry (photo on the right) turned to when they couldn't find cakes that they were happy to sell in their coffee shops in Kent. Diana's cakes tasted so good that, almost by accident, a new business was born.
Soon the Perrys were submerged by a rising tide of other local customers. Their front room became an office, the garage turned into a freezer and the family car was exchanged for a delivery van. The new venture blossomed.
Today, 27 years on, many of Diana's original recipes are still used for some of our best-loved cakes. We have a thriving bakery in Berkshire which has A grade EFSIS/BRC accreditation and a team of bakers and finishers who take huge pride in what they do. The number of cakes we make keeps on growing but our batch size stays nice and small.
All our cakes are delivered frozen. The only (unthinkable) alternative would be to add artificial preservatives. Our cakes are distributed to a large and growing number of businesses throughout mainland Britain, Ireland and now continental Europe.
In 2003 The Handmade Cake Company passed to a new generation, including myself, Mike and Simon. We all share a passion for real food and are committed to making many more great cakes in a traditional hand-made way.
We'd love to hear from you.
