We've been baking really good cakes and traybakes by hand for 25 years for caterers, cafes, coffeeshops and similar businesses. They trust us to make a cake for them that they can be proud of. And we don't use cake mixes.

All our cakes are delivered frozen. The only (unthinkable) alternative would be to add artificial preservatives.
We actually started life by accident! Back in the early eighties, the Perry family owned coffee shops and couldn't find cakes that they were happy to offer to their customers. So, with the help of a good friend and excellent cook, Diana Maher, they started to make their own. Lots of other caterers asked if they could buy the cakes and a new business was born.
Today many of Diana's original recipes are still used for some of our best-loved cakes. We have a thriving bakery in Berkshire which has A grade EFSIS/BRC accreditation and a team of bakers and finishers who take huge pride in what they do. The number of cakes we make keeps on growing but our batch size stays nice and small.
Our cakes are distributed to a large and growing number of businesses throughout mainland Britain, Northern Ireland and now continental Europe.
In 2003 The Handmade Cake Company passed to a new generation, including myself, Mike and Simon. We all share a passion for real food and are committed to making many more great cakes in a traditional hand-made way.

OCTOBER 2007 UPDATE
We have created two new cakes for the Autumn and have been working on our current range also.
The Blueberry & Lemon Drizzle Cake is our response to the many requests for us to develop a tangy, citrus-based round cake. It is quite different from our other round cakes and early reaction has been very positive. It's full of blueberries and lemon juice and is finished on top with caster sugar.
The Raspberry & Pinenut Slice is somewhere between a flapjack and a crumble. A generous quantity of crushed raspberries sandwiched between two oaty, pinenutty crumble layers. It tastes wonderful AND it handles well.
On the existing range, we've worked hard on the Apple Shortcake to help it keep its crunch for longer by improving the shortcake base and adding Demerara sugar to the top. But, by popular request, we've kept the same bramley apple in the middle.
We've also started to use Cafedirect coffees in all our coffee-based cakes. Their products taste very good and the way they work with growers deserves our support.
